I really like the lines of the artwork on the bottom Columbus one.GadgetSponge.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17921706318543284677noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3323012003780250968.post-82474199169598887142011-05-22T10:41:18.034-07:002011-05-22T10:41:18.034-07:00Columbus certainly looks more organized that most ...Columbus certainly looks more organized that most cities, but it looks awfully sterile to me(at least on the postcard).Postcardyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16399915833682943432noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3323012003780250968.post-1719153833280712902011-05-20T15:08:54.676-07:002011-05-20T15:08:54.676-07:00Christine, it's always so refreshing to see ex...Christine, it's always so refreshing to see examples of true forethought and design in city planning and development. I detest towns that sprawl down a highway, building willy-nilly. I have become 'hooked' on a new Facebook game called Garden of Time which involves 'building' ancient and modern scenes. No rivers but I have lots of aquaducts, koi ponds and two fountains. No threat of quitting my day 'job' to become a city planner, but am enjoying learning about building placement, usage, perspective, etc.Trishiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02827588587258035270noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3323012003780250968.post-26095829217786332352011-05-19T21:25:04.573-07:002011-05-19T21:25:04.573-07:00I can't think of another American city off han...I can't think of another American city off hand, but the Columbus image immediately makes me think of the urban gesture made by the Palais de Chaillot (1937) to the Eiffel Tower (1889)/Parc du Champs de Mars across the Seine in Paris. The Palais du Trocadero started the scheme in 1878, but I think that the cross-river relationship wasn't clear until Chaillot replaced the Trocadero. In that case, the Columbus civic center may have actually been a precedent for the Paris development, if it was built in the 20's.Archie Techthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08030376486096194337noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3323012003780250968.post-89971170445860475972011-05-19T15:23:55.183-07:002011-05-19T15:23:55.183-07:00Interesting post Christine.
