Ken Burns' television series on the U.S. National Parks inspired me to post a few Yellowstone cards. The second picture is from a Wyoming postcard folder. A beautiful setting and even a table cloth for elegant dining in the great outdoors.
oops, I think you meant Yellowstone, not Yosemite... These are really lovely colored cards. I think I like this style much more than today's full-color photo postcards. These impart such a nice dreamy or ethereal quality. Karin
Thanks Karin, Yep, you're right. Doesn't look a bit like Yosemite. I like the color quality too, although it's best when there are people, buildings, cars etc. When it's just the nature shots, I prefer the modern photographs.
I love antique postcards because they preserve evidence of everyday life as well as celebrations and sad events. Looking at an old postcard is like holding a single piece of a puzzle; we have to imagine the rest.
I will try to put up a postcard every day. If you have a special request for a particular city or place, let me know!
I just found your blog - what a great idea. Can't wait to read your previous posts! Cheers, Leah
ReplyDeleteOh, my--these are wonderful! Wow! Thank you for sharing them.
