Mermaids!

If only you could travel back in time, you could enjoy a cocktail at the famous Mermaid Room of the Hacienda Bar in Fresno, California. The Fresno Bar was probably inspired by the Weeki Wachi mermaid show in  Florida, but unlike the Fresno mermaids, the Weeki Wachi ones are still there. The difference is that now they have tails and bikini tops and really look like mermaids.

If you don't have time to go to Weeki Wachi Springs State Park to see the mermaids, you can click on the link and see pictures of them cavorting underwater and flirting with a submerged Greek statue of Adonis. They also do underwater dance routines with the American flag and with Kermit the Frog. You can even join them on Facebook.  Here in Oregon, none of our state parks have mermaids. They must be extinct here, so I'm glad that Florida is preserving theirs. Out here, we just have trees, waterfalls, lakes, mountains, and stuff like that.
Here's the back of the first postcard:
Hey, it's Postcard Friendship Friday, so head on over to Beth's blog, The Best Hearts Are Crunchy, and check out all the other fun postcards.

  7. Great postcard, very funny post. There's a very hip hotel in LA that has a woman sitting in a glass case behind the check in desk - but no water!

  9. Look at the wallpaper in that bar - classic 50's. And the woman on the far right appears to have neglected to take off her apron. She ran off from the rotten kids in a hurry.

  11. We want, need such a bar here too. A great alternative for the boring aquariums in many restaurants. Happy PFF!

  12. That mermaid is so perky hanging out underwater without her oxygen mask! Funny bar scene, too--they could be at a soda fountain in a drug store. Happy PFF!

  13. I agree with Linda on the bar patrons, looks like a pretty wholesome crowd, but I'm sure the fella in the foreground is just getting warmed up for the evening's real entertainment at the strip joint down the street... I'm very impressed with how well the make-up on the mermaid in the close-up is faring at these depths!

  14. I couldn't watch anything like that. I'd have to hold my breath the whole time as if I was underwater too.

  16. Christine, I checked out the mermaid web link but got tired holding my breath. hehe Those mermaid tail outfits make me claustrophobic, if that's the right word. I'd be kicking and screaming and in a panic -- notice any fear of water here?! Those mermaids sure are talented ....
