Here are some bright mini views of Florida, a keepsake from someone who went there on vacation from Binghamton (Bingo), New York in 1947. The views measure about 2.5 by 3.5 inches. I especially like the train. All 20 views are still in the folder, but I only selected 9 of them to post.
Interesting to see some of the stereotypical images of the time. Many seem more charming than some of the modern images.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful pictures!
ReplyDeleteI like the train too! I've never heard Binghamton being called "Bingo" before - it's fun! Maybe I can resurrect the nickname!
ReplyDeleteAimee, my family has been calling it 'Bingo' for at least half a century, but the game is frankly more fun than the city... I'm sure it was more exciting back when this card was dated, since the city was approaching the peak of its success.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of stereotypes, the image of the little black boy is quite precious -- and seems quite progressive for its time -- how refreshing!
