Huyler's was a chain of candy stores in the New York City area. May had probably discussed going to one of the Manhattan stores with Lizzie Graham for a trip that would include both sightseeing and sweets. The card was sent on this day 101 years ago. If you'd like to look at more postcards to and from the Graham family, click

The message reads:
Hello Lizzie:
How about that box of Huyler's? Think I smell them but I would be wiling to get them if you will only fulfill your part of the bargain. Don't forget your camera for I want one or two snap shots.
May.
Huyler's...Hu let the eggs out? Hu? Hu?
ReplyDeleteA box = a bargaining element? Or a bargain?
Women and sweets... Good to see that we're still the same, 101 years later!
ReplyDeleteLovely and I imagine Lizzie and May having a chuckle seeing us wondering about their bargain and whether they got the chocolates 101 years on :)
ReplyDeleteLove it :)I bet Lizzie remembered the camera.
ReplyDeleteThat picture is just too funny! I'm really gaining an appreciation of Easter postcards...got any more?
ReplyDeleteGetting to NYC from Delhi in 1910 would have been a trek, as it is a small town located in the middle of the Catskill Mountains, no E-Z blow down the interstate at 75 MPH possible... I'm sure the candies were a nice reward for the journey!
ReplyDeleteThis postcard is wonderful but I especially like that you posted it for us to see on the same date it was postmarked.
ReplyDeleteGoodness me, 101 years ago. The odd thing is that the topics - chocolate and photographs - are still at the forefront of our minds - well my mind anyway.
ReplyDeleteI Wonder what the photographs looked like? Maybe some pictures of folk eating chocs!
ReplyDeleteGreat card and great message!
