A different HAIRa - that's what I meant to say. It wasn't that long ago, but the hair was very different. I think women spent more time styling their hair back then, but I can't be sure. I know that people still have Tupperware, but I haven't ever heard of an actual Tupperware party in my lifetime.
Deborah also sports a classic circa 1970 hairstyle, with the Breck-girl look. I like the waves. Today she'd be using a hair straightener to get them out.
Here are the backs of the cards in the same order.
My husband and I had a Tupperware party for couples, in 1973 I think. The Tupperware lady didn't show up! I still managed to get some orders and turned them in to someone else in the Kansas City, Missouri, area. Love the cards today!
ReplyDeleteA "tupee-wear party" would never go out-of-style for men, if there is an adequate participation of certain demographics.
ReplyDeleteActually, those plastic boxes are very useful. :)
Nice atmosphere in the postcard...
Men and children should use as well storage boxes.
Screws, nuts, nails, washers...LEGO parts...
Is that Callista Gingrich -prior to her platinum job and installation of new circuitry- on the far right (no pun intended) at the Stepford Tupperware gig? Not sure what is in that container on the back of the card, but it ain't gonna be my lunch.
ReplyDeleteThe tupperware invite is really cool, I don't recall ever seeing an invitation postcard here in England. My mom had a tupperware party in 1983, we didn't get postcards to give out, but as fate would have it she started a new job that very day, so I had to do it! The prize that we got was a tupperware picnic box, the lid had spaces to hold your drinks when you turned it over. We still have it, did we ever use it? Don't think so. We do have quite a few other tupperware containers though, and one tub I am storing old coins in has a broken lid (maybe they were not meant for storing old coins). Tupperware was I think mainly 1960s and 1970s here in the UK.
ReplyDeleteWhat ! You've never been to a Tupperware party. You haven't lived! I think it shows how young you are...or how old I am.
ReplyDeleteMy uncle worked for the man that owned Tupperware and my sister and I sometimes got to stay at the Tupperware apt. in N.Y. that they kept for executives. It was an elegant penthouse apt. so it seemed odd that the cupboards were full of Tupperware. Although it shouldn't have seemed odd.
Love today's cards -- love the hairdo's and the tupperware! I use used a tupperware egg separator that my mom gave me an hour ago....and I was thinking how funny I still have it and still use it.....
ReplyDeleteThose Tupperware ladies look older than I did when I hosted a TW party so many years ago. The best things about their parties were the little gifts you could win - a great set of measuring spoons was my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI think I went to a tupperware party back in the late 1970s! Ah, tupperware...
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful and mostly likely the sort of cards that got quickly tossed.
ReplyDeleteDon't you think they whole deal with hair back then was just getting it to dry and look good? Drying was a chore. We didn't have the easy blow dryers we have now. It was all so tedious. Bonnet dryers and curlers until Joan Baez came along and said she ironed hers.
Still have some Tupperware that belonged to my mother. Good stuff even if it is plastic. I always liked burping it.
Ah Innocent Times! These Days It's More Likely To Be Ann Summers Than Tupperware !
ReplyDeleteThe only Tupperware party I attended was in the 1970s. I just looked at the Tupperware site and they now offer both home parties and online parties!
ReplyDeleteMy neighbor had a Tupperware party several years ago! I went just because of the novelty of it. & of course I had to buy something.
ReplyDeleteThey also sell it at little kiosks inside some of the malls here on LI.
Fun post Christine.
I love Tupperware postcards! Those B-52 hairstyles are too cool.
ReplyDeleteI would guess these ladies also went to fondue parties, too. Is fondue still done?
ReplyDeleteI think fondue parties came back for awhile, but I don't think they're very popular anymore.
ReplyDeleteFondue was back in a few years ago Steven, a couple restaurants even opened here in Portland, not sure if they still exist. Cooking your own food at a restaurant seems to defeat the purpose of going out to me, but there were also a couple Korean joints where you grilled meats at the table- don't know if they still exist either- and the recent addition of a place where you cook your own pancakes, which is super popular for couples with kids!
