The Wyatts of Coos Bay, Oregon

At  a time when many families were posing stiffly for grim-faced portraits, the relaxed and cheerful Wyatt family of Coos Bay, Oregon was living it up for the camera.

    I love this picture! Not only are they being silly and relaxed, but I like how the line of the walk leads up to the front door and how where they are placed oddly balances out the shot.

    They do appear to be having good fun, perhaps it is because there does not appear to be a foundation under their house! Was it built on piers instead- perhaps hidden in the shadows- because it was by the water, or was it being moved to a new site and on temporary cribbing? The gangplank in lieu of stairs suggests either the move, or, that the house was finished recently and they hadn't built the stairs yet- but since there are plants growing around the house, recent construction does not seem likely... An amusing and intriguing photo.

    Oh geez....I was that guy! There's scarcely a photo in existence of me, before the age of 15 or so, where I'm not making some sort of goofy face. I'm so ashamed.
