Farm Life Around Bremen, IN

This is not your usual brightly-colored exaggeration card. I like that the name of the town is on the card though -and that it was sent to someone in Bremen, Indiana.

Here's a close-up of the picture.

And here's the back of the card, sent to Mrs. Ella Bass.

The message reads:

Good Morning. just arose from my bed of slumber. katy  B. slept with me. Chas R. and Ray B. stayed all night. will go home today. The autatorium will have a cement floor. it will be a large building. the carpenters will begin next week. As Ever (illegible signature)

The card is postmarked Syracuse, but I'm pretty sure that was Syracuse, Indiana not Syracuse, New York. Syracuse is located near Oakwood Park, a religious camp and meeting ground,  which is where the auditorium was being built.  The original 1898 tabernacle burned down in May 1914 and was then rebuilt in August 1914.

  1. Ooh, I like that card a lot! I see cards with the location banner all the time, but never with the exaggeration theme thrown in.

  2. Oh this is cool, I really like how they made such funny postcards with their fruits or veggies and stuff...always making them stand out so big and delightful..imagine getting one today in the mail...probably not new for sure. Mostly I like it being mailed in 1914 and the sender put Mrs. but her first name! Very cool! Now we know who she is, instead of her hubby's first name! I wonder if Mark Twain ever spoke there, he did make the rounds to places like that with his lectures and such!

  3. Big is better, in terms of fruits (what about the associated fruit flies?). Life may be strenuous, but as long as Kathy B. is kept happy...the rest will follow.

  4. Definitely different that the other styled postcards. I wonder if there are anymore out there like that.
