There seems to be quite an assortment of Laredo, Texas postcards out there, but I don't remember seeing this one before. I like the stylistic car....it's looong!!!
Sounds like it might tend to be a little warm in Laredo.... I'm trying to figure out how they fit 200 rooms into that building ('outside' ones, implying they had a window?), perhaps there was another wing not shown. And 'circulating ice water'- either there was a separate drinking water line attached to a chiller, a bellhop that came around with a pitcher, or everyone got REALLY cold showers!
Circulating ice water is a type of air conditioning. At night, refrigeration units would make block ice. The ice would be stored in insulated chambers and during the day, tubes of water would pass through those chambers, and then circulate through the room walls and floors.
i love it..equipped with radio!!! fabulous postcard..the dining room is so pretty....I can just imagine the ladies and their gloves..even when traveling!!
I love antique postcards because they preserve evidence of everyday life as well as celebrations and sad events. Looking at an old postcard is like holding a single piece of a puzzle; we have to imagine the rest.
I will try to put up a postcard every day. If you have a special request for a particular city or place, let me know!
It reminds me a little of the Rock tavern, just up the road from us. I am sure you have noted the similarities.

ReplyDeleteYes, very much like the Rock Tavern. They probably covered over their Juliet windows in the dining room long ago though.
