This picture was taken in Bernay, which is located in northern France, in the Eure Department of Normandy. Ladies with mallets are not to be messed with, especially the one on the very left. I think she may be the ringleader.
I love antique postcards because they preserve evidence of everyday life as well as celebrations and sad events. Looking at an old postcard is like holding a single piece of a puzzle; we have to imagine the rest.
I will try to put up a postcard every day. If you have a special request for a particular city or place, let me know!
They do look a very serious bunch - completely agree that they should not be messed with.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting picture! I am scared of the woman on the left for sure.
ReplyDeleteUn petit Bonjour de France,
ReplyDeleteDes cartes postales Françaises, Bernay en Normandie ou j'allais au Lycée !
A bientôt.
