It's a very clever piece of artwork, with this couple sailing of in a boat shaped like a shoe, but the woman looks a little crazed. This card is from 1881.
I love antique postcards because they preserve evidence of everyday life as well as celebrations and sad events. Looking at an old postcard is like holding a single piece of a puzzle; we have to imagine the rest.
I will try to put up a postcard every day. If you have a special request for a particular city or place, let me know!
She's not shoe-re if the ocean is a waistland.
ReplyDeleteI love how on the back of the card they've used a different typeface for almost every line.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing her look is due to the great white shark she sees thru the glass bottom section in the toe of the shoe!
ReplyDeleteMaybe she's just crazy eager to get to the shoe store.
ReplyDeleteHoward, you're right, it looks like they changed it even within the lines. Anything to stand out!
ReplyDeleteAnother wonderful card, a joy to behold.
ReplyDeleteI really think she's delirious from the sea sickness or drinking too much seawater. I sure do like these advertising postcards!
ReplyDeleteI wanna shoe boat:)!!
ReplyDeleteBack of the postcard attract me more.
