I absolutely love these old paper moon real-photo postcards that people used to have taken at fairs and other events. The only problem is that you can spend a small fortune collecting them.
I'll just have to satisfy myself with a few, and enjoy looking at other collections.
Here's a very nice collection set to the appropriate music.
And if that's not enough for you, there are more on Flickr.
Here are the lyrics of Paper Moon, written by Harold Arlen, Billy Rose, and E. Y. Harburg.
Say, its only a paper moon
Sailing over a cardboard sea
But it wouldn't be make-believe
If you believed in me
Yes, it's only a canvas sky
Hanging over a muslin tree
But it wouldn't be make-believe
If you believed in me
Without your love
It's a honky-tonk parade
Without your love
It's a melody played in a penny arcade
It's a Barnum and Bailey world
Just as phony as it can be
But it wouldn't be make-believe
If you believed in me

I love the paper moon cards! So whimsical! I posted one last fall that you might like: http://postcardsetc.blogspot.com/2010/11/spooning-in-moon.html
ReplyDeleteA beautiful photo and thanks for sharing the video, they are great photo postcards!
ReplyDeletePay-per-Moon photos...:)
ReplyDeleteReading the lyrics made me think of my dad singing sweet old songs to my mom in the kitchen over the years- this was one of them- he had a terrible voice, but she appreciated the sentiment...
ReplyDeleteDas ist bezaubernd, heute mag ja mit digitaler Bildbearbeitung alles machbar sein, aber so hübsche Photokulissen gibt es nicht mehr.
ReplyDeleteIch wünsch dir eine schöne Woche

Oh, what a dreamy card! This is my favorite of all your cards so far...
ReplyDeleteAs always thanks for the cards - but also thanks for the lyrics as well. I was singing along as I read your post.
ReplyDeleteWe have one of these somewhere. I'll have to look for it.

P.S. thanks for the song.
