Everything Smokers and Chewers Want

Why anyone would think this picture would help sell a product is beyond me. It is amusing though. This is an advertising or trade card circa 1880.

    They probably figure that if you want to look as cool as this bricklayer with his gnarled face and mouth, then you should definitely come down and buy some cigars, tobacco and snuff. :)

    I'm going to have to show this to the strapping young masons building our retaining wall to get them to take fewer smoking breaks! The figure to the right looks like a cowboy, and the one to the left a chimney sweep, although they both seem to be carrying bricks for the gnarly dude...

    That picture is hysterical! Perhaps some advertisers back then understood that humor can be a good way to promote a product....or not.
