The Posey Tube

The Posey Tube was opened to traffic in 1928, connecting the cities of Alameda and Oakland, California. The card shows two-way traffic and a somewhat alarming no-passing sign. The Posey Tunnel now only serves Oakland-bound traffic. Another parallel tunnel, the Webster Tunnel, carries Alameda-bound traffic.

  1. The card is so typical of the age and the style. And what a fabulous name the Posey Tube is. Given just the title and no picture you could be trying to guess what it possibly could be for ages.

  2. Oh what a great drawing of the Posey. Always loved the Posey. It used to be so very dark. Just went through it last year and I was so totally confused by how everything had changed when I came out the other side. Really nice pristine card.

  4. Thoroughfare looks ultra modern. I like the neo classical style.

  5. Looks like it is going under a big lawn rather than a part of the SF Bay... I assume they didn't precast that 4000+ foot long concrete tube in one piece, sort of unwieldy to move around that way!

  6. Yes, it does look like a lawn, which suggest that either there was a massive algae bloom or the poor postcard tinter ran out of blue.
