Three lovely old views of Split, Croatia. I saw that Lay Hoon posted a contemporary postcard of Split yesterday on the Travel Postcard blog. It's interesting to look at that aerial view and be able to recognize these places.

ReplyDeleteA fountain with the name "Franz Joseph" (Emperor of Austria from 1848 up to 1916) reveals to us that the card was issued before the First World War. Please, note also the writings in Italian ("Spalato - etc."). In Split there was since several centuries a big part of Italian population. They were killed and/or sent away in 1945 by Yugoslavia of Tito.
