Security Building - Dubuque, Iowa

I was surprised to see that this building in Dubuque, Iowa is still standing. So is the Grand Opera House, the red building next to it.  The dog's not there anymore though. The Security Building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006. Today, Dubuque Main Street, a non-profit, helps to preserve and support a vibrant downtown. Here's what it looks like today:

  1. Especially surprising it still stands since it didn't get on the Historic Register until 4 years ago...

  2. The title of this postcard reminds me of something: See if you can track down the postcard of the Celanese plant in Bishop, TX. (I grew up about five miles down the road.) It's been cited as one of the most boring postcards ever!

What I hear you saying is that the title is boring, but that the card itself is fascinating. (We all hear what we want to hear.) I did look up that Celanese Plant and found the postcard. I must be a total nerd, because I actually thought it had some interesting aspects (lots of smokestacks and what looks to be a toxic pond in the front.) Mostly, I take this as a challenge to post some REALLY boring postcards. Stay tuned.
