Eleven Pound Baby

No, this is not a picture of the baby; this is a turkey. See the back of the card for details on the turkey-sized baby.

The message sent to William Jefferson in 1909 reads:
Dear Annie +Will - You will be surprised  to hear of our Eleven pownd Boy Born Nov. 22.

    And I though I was a fat baby a over 9 pounds! This card was sent to my current town, Ithaca! I love how ornate the holiday postcards of this time frame are.

    Strange, the writing looks like the penmanship of a young school kid, not a mother who's just given birth to an (ouch) 11 pound baby....
